Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2001 Formula One car has sold at auction in New York for a record €6,392,650 ($7,504,000), significantly more than the auction house’s estimate of €3.4 million ($4 million).

The German driver’s 91 race wins and seven championships made him the most successful driver to have ever raced in F1, auctioneers RM Sotheby’s said.

The car was driven by Schumacher in 2001 at F1’s most prestigious race, the Monaco Grand Prix. It was also in this car that he won his fourth Driver’s Championship, winning the 2001 Hungarian Grand Prix.

The iconic Ferrari is in racing condition and the manufacturer has agreed to help with the transport and storage of the car. Part of the record price will go to Schumacher’s charity, Keep Fighting, which works for safer roads.

Schumacher himself is currently still recovering from the traumatic head injuries he suffered in 2013 in a skiing accident.
