Reception at UN promotes Monaco’s green goals

HE Mrs Isabelle Picco, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations and Mr. Gildo Pallanca Pastor, Consul General of Monaco in New York, celebrated the anniversary of the Accession of HSH the Sovereign Prince by holding a round table on ‘green energy’ followed by a reception in the United Nations General Assembly building in New York on July 12.

The President of the United Nations General Assembly, HE Mr. Miroslav Lajcak, honoured the event with his presence. A panel of high-level personalities, moderated by former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard, brought together the United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety and FIA President Jean Todt, the Founder and FIA Formula E CEO, Alejandro Agag, the main team of the Formula E Venturi team, Susie Wolff, and the Formula E Venturi Driver, Felipe Massa.

The Formula E Venturi second generation electric car was presented, in preview, illustrating the contribution of sport, and more particularly motor sport, to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development taking place from July 9 to 20, the theme of which is “Transformation to Sustainable and Resilient Societies”, the discussions highlighted recent advances in clean energy ( SDG 7) and Sustainable Cities (SDG 11) developed in the framework of the Formula E Championship.

HE Mrs Picco highlighted the actions of the Principality to achieve the goal set by HSH the Sovereign Prince to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The Ambassador also referred to the recent launch of the National Energy Transition Pact. She also stressed the crucial role of technological innovation, an important component of Monegasque policy, in all aspects of development. The many guests present at the reception were then able to enjoy a Monegasque cocktail with barbajuan, pissaladière and Monaco beer.
