Principality helps fight environmental pollution

HE Ms. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality to the United Nations Office in Geneva and Ms. Chrystel Chanteloube, Third Secretary, participated in the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health organised by the World Health Organisation in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from June 12 to 15.

A video message from HSH the Sovereign Prince was shown during the opening ceremony, in which he recalled that 13 million deaths each year are caused by environmental pollution, including more than one million children.

On the strength of this scientifically proven fact, the European region, which has been a pioneer in this field for more than 25 years, must continue and intensify its efforts, the Prince said.

The Ostrava Conference concluded with the adoption of a declaration to strengthen synergies at the national level in order to accelerate efforts to reduce sources of pollution and improve health, in particular by increasing collaboration in the European region.

The ministerial conferences of the European Environment and Health process provide a unique platform for cross-sector policy. This platform brings together the relevant sectors and partners to develop environmental and health policies and measures and so advance the work carried out in these areas in the WHO European Region .
