HSH Prince Albert launched the 2017/2020 Monaco Explorations campaign at the Oceanographic Museum on Tuesday, April 4.

In many ways, this was a return, some 120 years later, to the maritime scientific explorations initiated by his great-great-grandfather, Prince Albert I.

The Yersin, the ecological research ship flying the Monegasque flag, will leave in August from the Port of Monaco. It will follow a longitudinal route between the Tropics, for a 36-month journey around the world.

The campaign will be based on the recommendations of a Scientific Steering Committee composed of ten internationally-renowned scientists whose primary objective will be to select research programmes and ensure the choice of projects. Science will therefore be the basis for the approach, which will be complemented by awareness raising, communication and mediation.

Monaco Ocean Week was the highlight of the event, which was broadcast live on Monaco Info and on the Facebook pages of the Prince’s Palace and Monaco Explorations.
