On Friday, September 1, more than a thousand Monegasques of all generations gathered around the Princely Couple for the traditional “Cavagnëtu”, the Monegasque picnic, at Parc Princesse Antoinette.

Shortly after 6 pm, the Sovereign Prince and Princess Charlene, holding in their arms Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, and accompanied by Baroness Elisabeth-Ann de Massy, were welcomed by Mayor Georges Marsan and many members of the Communal Council.

After the traditional delivery of bouquets and reception by the dancers of the Palladian, a Mass was celebrated in the open air by Archbishop Bernard Barsi and Canon César Penzo and accompanied by the choir of U Cantin A Roca.

An aperitif was served around the socca ovens and the stands of local culinary specialties, including pies, pissaladière, and Monégasque fougasse. The picnic continued until late in the evening under the olive trees of the.

Guests were also able to enjoy the bars, barbecues, ice creams and other delicacies offered by the Town Hall in order to fill the “cavagnëtu” picnic basket that some had brought for the occasion.
