Every year, Les Azuriales Young Artist’s Programme brings together nine gifted young singers for a series of events to entertain and inspire. The participants come from all over the world and this year’s group includes talent from the UK, New Zealand, South Korea, Australia, Russia, Poland and South Africa.

The programme began with a singing competition on 12th August at the iconic Théâtre de la Citerne in the Citadelle Saint Elme in Villefrance sur Mer, where the contestants vied for prizes totalling €10,000.

This was followed by the first of two masterclasses on 14th and 18th August. The first, held at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in St Jean Cap Ferrat, was headed by world famous tenor David O’Neill. The second took the singers back to the Théâtre de la Citerne, where the Head of Casting at the Scottish Opera, Sarah-Jane Davies, and Brian Evans, Musical Director of both Diva Opera and Les Azuriales, gave classes.

The culmination of the programme is yet to come. On Sunday 25th August there will be a presentation by the nine stars in training of Iolanta, Tchaikovsky’s last opera, at the Villa Ephrussi. Tickets for this event are sold out.

The opera is based on a Danish play and is aptly set in the mountains of Southern France.
