Action Innocence Monaco raises record figure at Christmas tree auction

Supported by Prince Albert and Princess Charlene, Action Innocence Monaco has celebrated its 20th anniversary with a record-breaking sum of €156,000 raised at its annual charity Christmas Tree Auction in the Hôtel de Paris.

In today’s world, the internet is ubiquitous in all parts of life. This is not just true for adults, but also for children who are being exposed to the internet earlier and earlier. Founded in 2002 with the support and patronage of HSH Prince Albert II and the cooperation of the Direction de la Sûreté Publique of the Principality of Monaco, Action Innocence Monaco was born in response to the ever-growing concern for parents and the wider community around how to educate both parents and children about the hidden dangers of the web, whilst also providing protection for the younger users.

In order to meet its objectives, the organisation’s primary means for generating funds is through an annual auction of Christmas trees, created and donated by some of the Principality’s most exclusive boutiques and artists. Each year the lobby of the Hôtel de Paris becomes the home of Action Innocence’s stunning Christmas Tree forest, displayed in full splendour for several days before the auction. This year’s charity event, held at 6pm Tuesday 13th December, broke all previous records, with an impressive €156,000 raised, thanks to the generosity of the contributing businesses and participants in this popular event.

Originally formed under the Action Innocence umbrella foundation in Geneva, in October 2014 the foundation officially became autonomous in its own right. Since year one, Louisette Lévy-Soussan Azzoaglio, President of the organisation, has organised and run the annual auction of Christmas trees to raise much-needed funds, and each year the event has grown in size and popularity, and has now become one of the most anticipated events of the season, featuring stunningly original and beautifully decorated trees, adorned with gifts and put up for sale to the highest bidder.

Action Innocence Monaco chose to include just 20 trees in this year’s forest, compared to over 30 last year, in a representation of the foundation’s 20 years of existence. The organisation gave thanks to a list of partners and donors, including Boghossian, Buccellati, Cartier, Ceramiche Sambuco, Chopard, CREM (Club des Résidents Étrangers Monaco), Dionysos Wines, Hôtel de Paris, Hôtel Hermitage, Hôtel Métropole, Isabell Kristensen Couture, Ivanova Valentina Ineos Monaco Limited, L’Astemia Pentita Barolo SRL, Oneteas, Métropole Shopping, Monte Carlo Bay Hôtel Resort,  Repossi Joaillier, Riva Monaco Boat Service, Riviera Monte Carlo, Les Thermes Marins Monte Carlo, and Zegg Cerlati Panerai.

In attendance was HSH Prince Albert as well as Princess Charlene, and during his speech to thank and acknowledge contributors to the event, Action Innocence’s Vice-President Nick Danziger thanked the Prince particularly for his unwavering support of the organisation each year for the past 20 years.

Prince’s Foundation now accepting crypto donations

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has launched a new app built on the DigitalBits Blockchain, making it easier for people to donate to the organisation’s many environmental causes as well as purchase tickets for live events.

People are creatures of convenience. If something isn’t fast and easy in this supercharged world, often it gets left behind, even if it is something truly important.

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (FPA2) understands this and as a result has launched an app allowing people with big hearts but little time to purchase NFT tickets to selected Foundation events, as well as to make contributions to the association’s ocean conservation, sustainable development and species protection projects.

The app, built on the DigitalBits blockchain, is eco-friendly when compared to others of its kind. The FPA2 application and embedded crypto wallet can be used during events, allowing attendees to register and enable the use of DigitalBits cryptocurrency to make donations. The app was unveiled at the recent Monaco Crypto Summit.

A press conference to announce the launch was hosted at the Grimaldi Forum with Olivier Wenden, Vice President of the FPA2,  and Prince Albert in attendance.

Digital Bits is a “layer-one blockchain protocol” that focuses on speed, security and cost-savings. Practically anything can be tokenised, including NFT’s created by brands, celebrities, artists and sport’s organisations.

DigitalBits was founded in 2017 by Al Burgio, who says, “I originally launched DigitalBits with the vision of evolving the way consumers and brands engaged and used legacy digital assets. It was evident that blockchain had the power to change the way we thought about and used existing and new forms of consumer digital assets. Things have grown significantly since then, including the DigitalBits ecosystem. Branded cryptocurrencies, branded stablecoins, NFTs and more, are all coming to DigitalBits. As technology evolves, we will see more engaging experiences with consumer digital assets than ever before.”

DigitalBits Blockchain recently signed on David Beckham as its global ambassador.

Ladies Vintage Car Rally: more than just pretty faces …

rallycasinoWhere else in one day could you get behind the wheel of the 1967 Citroën DC Cabriolet Chapron that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie drove in their film “By the Sea”, be given a passport for the Principality of Seborga by its princess personally and meet Joan Collin’s double in the movie “Absolutely Fabulous”? It could only be in Monaco at the Ladies Vintage Charity Car Rally.

On Sunday, 64 women from many nationalities, from France to Italy and from Denmark to Canada, dressed in this year’s theme “Belle en Perles” à la Coco Chanel, jumped into some 40 spectacular vintage cars, provided by Fabrice Leroy, owner of Rent a Classic Car in Nice, southern Europe’s largest private collection of vintage cars, for a day of female fun for a good cause.

As with the two successful previous years, funds raised from yesterday’s rally will go to the Monaco Charity Association Child Care Monaco and its school for girls in India.

Organiser Martine Ackerman steered the third edition of the women-only event in a new direction. The all-day fundraiser started with breakfast at the Café de Paris and a departure from Place du Casino and included a lunch in Seborga, afternoon tea in Saint-Michel and, an additional surprise this year, HSH Prince Albert was present for the end-of-day prize giving cocktail at Castelroc restaurant, just across from the palace, where in the prince’s usual fashion, he extended personal greetings to many of the attendees and posed for a shot with the group.

As a first timer I wasn’t sure what the day would bring but it was a memorable occasion on many levels. A day of glamour, gastronomy and giving. The women, many of whom work in Monaco, were lovely, a smart and lively group, united by their commitment to Martine’s cause. “This is my third year driving in the rally,” one Chanel-inspired participant said. “I support Martine and what she’s doing every chance I can, and this is just a fun day out with the girls. And I know all the money goes to the charity.”

In 2012, Martine created the association Child Care Monaco with the objective to offer education to underprivileged children all over the world. “After several visits to India, Child CARE Monaco set up the Sneh Girls School, which could accommodate 90 girls. But the facility quickly proved too small as it also takes girls from nearby villages so the following year we built a school with a dispensary, two additional classrooms and a playground. But the rooms are empty and in need of equipment.”

Donations or sponsoring a child age 5 to 13 for €149 per year, which covers 1 school year, 2 meals per day, basic medical needs and the school uniform, can be made at childcaremonaco.com

Mark your calendar for the next Child Care Monaco event, a gala dinner at the Casino on Saturday, December 3.

On September 18, the first London to Monaco cycle charity ride will begin – an epic 10-day journey starting from the Tower of London, and arriving at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco on September 27, to coincide with the launch of the Monaco Yacht Show the following day.

An initiative of London-based Winch Design, the award-winning company “specialising in the exterior and interior design of yachts, aircrafts, residential and commercial properties”, 73 cyclists from the superyacht industry – Burgess, Rivergate, Oldenburger, Boat International, Icon Connect, Arcon Yachts and Reef Knots – will saddle up for the 1500 km challenge over three countries, hitting peaks of 12,000 feet, to raise awareness and money for the Blue Marine Foundation, which was founded in 2012. Organisers hope to hit £500,000 to go towards two projects targeting ocean protection, in the Aeolian Islands north of Sicily and the remote island of Ascension in the tropical Atlantic.

Winch Design has long supported Blue Marine, including the “Whale Room” design by William Blomstrand at Sweden’s Ice Hotel in 2012, which replicated the ribcage of a whale.

Andrew Winch, remarked, “I’m passionate about the oceans and know that we must ensure the future of our seas. As a great supporter of Blue Marine Foundation, I wanted to make a real contribution to their wonderful work in celebration of our thirtieth year in business. The entire team at Winch design is inspired to do their bit to help and I hope people within our industry will get behind this event to show their support for Blue and the environment.”

On Sunday, June 18, Monaco Liver Disorder (MLD), Blue Wave Software and a few other local associations gathered in Monaco for a Citroën 2CV rally to raise funds for children at the Archet II hospital in Nice, which coordinates organ transplantations and donors in the PACA region.

MLD founder and Vice-President, Carla Shechter, told Monaco Life, “Today we are paying tribute to professor Christian Cabrol, who died on June 16, 2017, and who did so much for transplantation and medical research.”

There was much laughter as the six colourful deux-chevaux pulled out of the Monte-Carlo Country Club parking lot at 9 am, with the gearbox in the vintage Citroëns, manufactured between 1948 and 1990, being considerably different to manoeuvre than those found in a current model. “Push forward and left to get into first gear,” explained Patrizio Forni d’Agostin, CEO of 2CV Escapade, the company that provided the cars to the association MLD, whose Honorary President is Princess Charlene.

Around twenty participants gathered for children’s cause on Father’s Day. Among them, Hilde Haneuse Heye, CEO of Blue Wave Software, who assisted Ms Shechter and was delighted to be a part of the day. “Carla is amazing, she always thinks of others. I am so proud to be here, it is a marvellous cause.”

Also supporting the cause were friends Emma Ruspantini (Agence Continentale), Jean-Christophe Goethals (MD, Just Unlimited) and the recently named General Manager of Monaco Metropole Shopping Centre, Stephen Valkenborg.

The enthusiastic group drove through Menton, Saint Agnès, La Turbie – with a lunch break that included a game of petanque – before making their way back to Monaco around 7 pm. A fundraising dinner followed at Café de Paris.

For more information about making a donation, see the MLD Facebook page.
