More than 1,200 students from the Principality of Monaco are expected to visit the Monacology Eco-Village on the port from June 11 to 15.

During these five days, students will learn, in entertaining and inspiring ways, how to support the National Pact for Energy Transition, signed on January 19 by Prince Albert. They will also rediscover the related Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (the theme of the 2017 Monacology Week) through various workshops and exhibitions, especially those created by the Monegasque students themselves.

Now in its 14th edition, Monacology was created in 2004 by Kate and Didier from Stars’n’Bars, together with environmentalist Olivier Arnoult, in order to raise awareness among Monaco’s children about protecting the environment while having fun.

The educational activities include workshops, lectures, film screenings and interactive games developed by more than thirty organisations representing the government, the Department of Education, non-profit associations and the private sector.

Monaco’s national goal is to reduce  greenhouse emissions by  50 percent before the year 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This year’s Monacology Week will focus on the three axes of the national energy transition pact: mobility, waste treatment, and energy use in buildings.

According to the organisers, “This week will provide the tools students will need to develop their knowledge in the face of real life problems. Our goal is to allow the students to question lifestyles that threaten sustainability.

“Education for sustainable development is learning how to design new solutions to face the challenges of tomorrow.”

As every year, the Monacology Eco-Village is 100 percent green. More information: website www.monacology.fr
