Casino to host top poker event

onedroppokerThe charity founded by high-stakes poker player and billionaire businessman Guy Laliberté has announced that it will hold the most expensive live poker tournament in history this autumn, and unsurprisingly the venue is the Casino in Monte-Carlo…

The event, called the Monte-Carlo One Drop Extravaganza, will take place from October 13-17. Caesars Interactive Entertainment, owner of the World Series of Poker, is also behind the one-of-a-kind event, card player.com reports.

The headlining tournament during the short series, The Big One for One Drop Invitational, will begin at noon on Friday, October 14 and will last three days. It features the largest buy-in poker tournament ever held, a €1,000,000 buy-in, with €111,111 from each entry going to One Drop. Despite the nosebleed stakes, the tournament is re-entry for the first day.

The event follows One Drop’s $1 million buy-in tournaments at the WSOP, which were held in 2012 and 2014. Other years have featured a six-figure high roller.

Poker pro Antonio Esfandiari won the first one for $18,346,673, while high-stakes online grinder Dan Colman was the champion in the 2014 event for $15,306,668.

“While both of these [prior] events were primarily contested by professional poker players, The Big One for One Drop Invitational will be a by-invitation-only tournament for businessmen, philanthropic and celebrity recreational players,” a press release said.
