AS Monaco Triathlon takes home medals at the Ironman 70.3

The Ironman 70.3 held in Nice recently saw AS Monaco Triathlon athletes bring home two medals.

American Rachel Clausing, racing for AS Monaco Triathlon, won the title of world champion in the 35-year age group category by finishing the race in an astounding 4 hours, 53 minutes and 56 seconds. 40-year-old Laurent Lambert, who was neck and neck with eventual winner Alexander Vinokurov the entire race, came in a solid and respectable second place with a time of 4 hours, 29 minutes and 2 seconds.

The race consisted of a 1.9km swim in the Med, followed by a 90km bike course through the villages and mountains behind Nice, then ended with a 21km two-loop course along the Promenade des Anglais.

President of AS Monaco Triathlon, Pierre Ballerio, was pleased by his team’s efforts and especially those of his two medal winners, saying: “I am a very happy president! We must not forget that we are an amateur club and that the athletes are very committed.”
