As Monaco is hosting Olympique Lyonnais for the opening game of the French Ligue 1 Championship this Friday 9th August at the Stade Louis II.
With eight French league titles, five victories in the Coupe de France, one Coupe de la Ligue, and in Europe, appearances in the Finals of both the Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Champions League, AS Monaco is among the most prestigious clubs in French football.
The Stade Louis II has played host to some titanic matches in competitions from France’s Ligue 1 to the illustrious Champions League itself, against the likes of Paris St Germain, Olympique de Marseille, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.
Friday night’s match against Lyon kicks off at the Stade Louis II at 8.45 pm.
Meanwhile, AS Monaco has announced the signing of 26-year-old Ruben Aguilar from Montpellier. The right-back is coming on board for five seasons.
After three seasons and almost 100 matches for the Burgundians, the defender joined the French top flight and Montpellier Hérault Sport Club.
In 68 games over the last two seasons, he proved to be an important member of the Montpellier squad, renowned for his defensive prowess. By his activity and quality of crosses (five assists), he contributed to the quality results of the MHSC in Ligue 1 last season.
