On the occasion of the first match of the Jeep Elite 2017/2018 playoffs, the AS Monaco  Basketball Partners Association presented a cheque of one million euros to the President of AS Monaco Basket SA, Sergei Dyadechko, as the first significant contribution. Created at the beginning of the season at the instigation of the Prince's Government, within the framework of the Governance and Communication Convention which binds it to the AS Monaco Basket SA for two years, the association brings together donors and investors who want to support the Roca Team project. The association is under the chairmanship of Dr Ilhami Aygun, who will soon occupy a seat on the Board of Directors of the professional basketball team. Already a triple winner in the regular Jeep Elite season since its return to the French basketball elite three years ago, Roca Team also finished third and second in the Basketball Champions League on two occasions. The team is looking for a win in the playoffs that started Wednesday, May 23, against Pau-Lacq-Orthez.

HE Jean-Luc Van Klaveren, Ambassador of Monaco in Spain, held a reception on Tuesday, May 15, in honour of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo who were presenting Le Songe at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, from May 16 to 19. At Casa Fuster, the Ambassador, accompanied by diplomats and the Honorary Consul General of Monaco in Barcelona, invited local personalities, including the Lieutenant General of the Civil Guard, the head of the Police of Catalonia, and the head of the Catalonia airline administration, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Also present at this reception were 29 foreign consuls stationed in Barcelona. The event was an opportunity for the Ambassador to welcome his guests in a very friendly atmosphere and to present to them the excellence of Monegasque culture. On Wednesday, May 16, the first of the five performances of Jean-Christophe Maillot's Dream was greeted with a standing ovation by a full house at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Following the show, HE Van Klaveren and his guests participated in a cocktail, organised by Monaco’s Tourism and Congress Department, during which they met Jean-Christophe Maillot, Choreographer and Director of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, as well as the dancers of the Company, in a relaxed and warm atmosphere.

On Tuesday, May 22, in Strasbourg, a Monegasque delegation took part in a Conference marking the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, otherwise known as the Warsaw Convention. The fight against trafficking in human beings is one of the global priorities in the promotion of fundamental human rights and the fight against organised crime. The Warsaw Convention is at the heart of the values defended by the Council of Europe. The Conference underlined the decisive contribution of the conventional mechanism in the fight against trafficking through evaluation, awareness-raising and coordination work carried out as closely as possible to the realities on the ground. Several panels were held around the themes of prevention, guaranteeing victims' rights, penal response and building strategic partnerships. These discussions fostered the exchange of information, the sharing of good practices and finally the formulation of new avenues of work for effective actions best-adapted to the challenges. Monaco has been a party to the Warsaw Convention since 2015 and participates in several Council of Europe programmes in connection with the protection of the rights of the most vulnerable, targets of human traffickers and smugglers, particularly in the context of refugees and migrants. In partnership with UNODC and the OSCE, the Principality is also supporting several initiatives to strengthen the capacity of States to combat trafficking and smuggling, to promote prevention, to protect the rights of victims and to fight against the impunity of those responsible. Monaco is also involved in the global movement against the criminal networks that profit from trafficking through international cooperative activities.

The Monaco Red Cross is offering a training weekend on June 9 and 10 at Stade Louis II. The course is intended for volunteers who may wish to become Red Cross leaders to help children and young people understand the context of present-day conflicts. In focus will be International Humanitarian Law. These are the “rules of war”, which are meant to protect those who do not participate in combat during an armed conflict. The training weekend will help new volunteer leaders to make young people aware of the rules of war through fun activities, the “Raid Cross” for teens, and the “Limito” for 8 to 12 year-olds. The number of places is limited. Free training is open to anyone who would like to become a leader in International Humanitarian Law in the Principality. To apply: mronzi@croix-rouge.mc.
